The meeting showed how public housing can lead sustainable building not only through new construction but also through refurbishment.

Pamplona, 31 May 2023.

Orkli, the leading company in the Spanish market for heating and comfort solutions in the home, and part of the Mondragón Group, held the conference "Sustainable Building & Health: Building tomorrow's housing today" in Pamplona on 31 May, with the collaboration of the distribution company On Clima, attended by more than 75 professionals from the sector who debated the challenges that sustainable building must face in terms of public health.

The conference, structured around three presentations ("Indoor air quality"; "Promotion of public housing as a sustainable building tractor" and "Guarantees of comfort and health in sustainable building"), concluded with a round table discussion on the current situation of the sector in the region of Navarre and the rest of Spain.

Thus, the presentation "Indoor air quality. Benefits, social responsibility and environmental impact in sustainable construction", given by María Figols, co-founder and Director of Health and Sustainability of the company inBiot, explained in detail what a correct monitoring of indoor air must be like in order to have good air quality, and she stressed the importance of a biological approach to the issue in order to understand the implications of the fact that: "we spend more than 90% of our time indoors without understanding the most basic part of breathing, that is, the quality of indoor air", said Figols when talking about the real meaning of IAC in homes.

Alberto Bayona, Managing Director of the Navarre public company Nasuvinsa, then focused on "Public housing development as a driving force for sustainable construction". A field in which, as he acknowledged, there is still a long way to go, but in which the "regional government is making an enormous effort to promote sustainable building, not only in new construction, but also in refurbishment and rental", said Bayona. He also shared with those present the progress of the project that Nasuvinsa is working on in the industrialisation of construction, with the creation of the National Industrialisation Centre.

To close the round of presentations, Orkli wanted to contribute its best research talent in the form of Rafael Bravo, Director of R&D in the Comfort and Health business of Orkli Group. Bravo gave a complete presentation on the "Guarantees of comfort and health" that sustainable building must have. Based on the company's own experience and its technology interconnecting all the solutions of the Orkli Ecosystem for the improvement of CAI in residential housing, Bravo highlighted that "at Orkli we have been working for years on the challenges that society demands in relation to the need for greater comfort in the home with the lowest possible consumption, the need to bring energy efficiency to the forefront and also contemplating healthiness through the control and monitoring of indoor air quality. This reflection and years of work is the origin of Orkli's interconnected Ecosystem of Energy Efficiency, Comfort and Health in the Home".

The event concluded with a round table where, in addition to the three speakers mentioned above, Fernando Macías, engineer and partner of AM Ingenieros, Víctor Otero, architect and manager of COAVN (Official Association of Basque-Navarrese Architects) and Beñat Zudaire, Director of the Orkli Group's Comfort and Health business, participated as moderator.
